The Golden Hotel receives mixed reviews, with significant concerns regarding construction, lack of communication, and inconsistent service. While some guests rave about the location, staff friendliness, and overall experience, particularly for events, others report issues with room readiness, cleanliness, and a lack of transparency about ongoing renovations. Overall, recent feedback indicates a need for improvements in operational consistency and guest communication.
Serious security lapse and disappointing service I chose this hotel specifically for the "free breakfast" and convenient location, but I deeply regret not booking the alternative down the street. The stay started on a high note of incompetence: we were checked into an occupied room. Seeing someone else’s clothes and food was a shock, and when we returned to the desk, the manager didn't even offer an apology, let alone a gesture to make it right. The Lows: Construction: We were never notified of the on-site construction. Loud work began at 7:00 AM sharp every day. The "Breakfast": Calling it breakfast is a stretch. It was just prepackaged cereal and one cheap pastry. We ended up paying to eat out every morning. Amenities: No slippers available, even for purchase. The Highs: The housekeeping team was great - the room was cleaned well and on time daily. On-site parking is available (though it should be waived given the other issues). The location is central, but not unique to this property.
Absolutely terrible! We would have been better off staying at a motel 6. For the price for a single king bed we could have gotten an entire suite at another hotel. No one mentioned that the entire hotel was a construction site. There was no river access and the parking lot was a nightmare. The top portion was taken up by a temporary kitchen trailer that was used to service the restaurant ( who wants their food carted across a parking lot and through the hotel?), the bottom or garage portion was an active construction site! The access to the river from the garage was not barricaded off and leads directly to a fenced in job site with hazards everywhere and no opening to the river or main street. Save your money and go elsewhere!!!
????? One Star Review Unfortunately, our stay at the Golden Hotel in Golden, Colorado was very disappointing. Upon arrival, the elevator was not working, and we were assigned a room on the third floor. There was no assistance offered to help with luggage, which made check-in difficult. The next morning, we woke up to find there was no hot water—and it remained out for the rest of the day. It later became apparent that the hotel is undergoing renovations, something that was never disclosed prior to completing our booking. Had we been informed, we would have appreciated the opportunity to choose a different hotel. In addition, the hotel’s boiler also went out, which affected the restaurant during breakfast. The dining area was extremely cold, and the staff was assisting guests with blankets while they ate. To add context, Golden had just experienced its first snow of the 2026 season during our stay. Given these conditions, I can only imagine how challenging it would be to stay here during a full winter storm or blizzard. If you are planning to stay at the Golden Hotel during the winter, I strongly recommend asking the staff about the status of renovations and essential services before booking. Cold showers and lack of basic accommodations are not what you expect when staying at a hotel.
We came here just for the Santa event. It was pictures with Santa, hot cocoa bar, cookies, and coloring activities. It was fantastic and totally free. The staff were so friendly and helpful even though most people attending the event were not guests at the hotel. 10/10 would attend again.
????? Our Dream Wedding at The Golden Hotel! I’ve been meaning to write this review for nearly a year now…hey, if wedding etiquette says you have a year to send a gift, I’m claiming a year to write a review too! Better late than never, because The Golden Hotel deserves every bit of praise I can give. My husband and I got married here on New Year’s Eve 2024 and I truly think everyone should have their wedding at The Golden Hotel. From the moment we chose it, the experience was seamless, joyful, and unforgettable. We live in Alaska, so we planned this entire wedding long-distance, which could have been stressful…unless you have Eliza and Dustin. Eliza, wedding coordinator and absolute gem of a human being was my rock amid the chaos that is wedding planning. She eased my every anxiety, answered my million questions promptly via phone and email, and helped bring to life the wedding of our dreams. And Dustin, the manager, was equally wonderful - he was always there when we needed him and made us feel like total VIPs. The rest of the staff…wow. Every single person was kind, attentive, and genuinely invested in making our wedding perfect. From the front desk to the hospitality crew to the incredible setup team, we felt so cared for. We had about 80 guests, most from out of town, and by the end of our time there it felt like the hotel belonged to us! Every guest commented on how amazing the staff and the experience were. Having everything in one place was a game changer - ceremony, reception, and guest rooms all within steps. No transportation worries, no complicated logistics, and no stressing over who had one too many cocktails before driving home… It was effortless and fun for everyone! And of course, the location can’t be beat. The hotel is right in the heart of downtown Golden, with its charming shops, tasty restaurants, and pretty views. Since Golden is my husband’s hometown, it meant the world to us to show it off, and our guests absolutely loved exploring it. Not to mention its ideal for wedding photos! If you’re considering The Golden Hotel for your wedding, just do it. Truly. It was the best decision we made, and we’re still glowing from the memories. ??
We were here on a girls trip for two birthdays. It's our second time here. The staff is so friendly and made our birthday celebration so special. Luke B. was an amazing bartender and server. He recommended different specialty drink had great conversation with us Ladies. We will be back again to celebrate our birthdays. The Golden is the only place to stay on a girl's trip.
Luke B in the lounge was amazing. We were a very needy group of girls on our annual trip. He was extremely accommodating and made us some amazing espresso martinis and several other delicious cocktails. A very kind, respectful, and attentive young man. Hope to see him here next year.
We stayed for a weekend for a friend's wedding and the hospitality of every staff member was phenomenal! The wedding and reception were held at the hotel and everything was perfect! The staff really went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and didn't need anything, prompt on clearing any dishes, and just pleasant to be around. There wasn't a time where I passed a staff member and they didn't smile and say hi. Our room was absolutely wonderful! Very clean. Beds were extremely comfortable. I liked the option of requesting when you would like to have house keeping come to your room. I loved how everything was in walking distance. Lots of food and shopping options just a walk away! We would 100% stay here again and recommend this hotel to family and friends. Thank you!
The location is optimal for exploring Golden and the surrounding area, and proximity to a "river walk" path makes accessing all parts of the town easy. The staff were nothing but kind and cordial. We received several complimentary cupcakes upon entry, and the additional toiletries we needed were given in a timely fashion. The room was clean and comfortable. I would overall recommend to anyone staying in the Golden area, and am very glad I decided to stay three nights here!
Great spot in the cute town for Golden, Colorado! Recommend just staying for a night as it’s a one street town, but lots of cute stuff to do in the area. My bathroom wasn’t cleaned super well (there was a hair left in the bathtub) but I had a great view! The room was not ready by 3pm but Matt at the front desk was especially friendly and helpful. There’s an AC unit in the room so you can just the temp and you can also turn on the fan if you need that to fall asleep. The frozen yoghurt shop (Goozell) and Humble House cafe were cute places to go nearby that had decent food!
